Verger's Instructions:
If you can’t
serve when scheduled, please find a substitute and note it on the schedule in
the narthex. If you can’t do that, email the church office and Barbara
will make the notation. If I don’t know that you have found a substitute,
I will try to find someone at the last minute which is sometimes
embarrassing when we have two people stepping up.
Host Families
1. Please arrive 15 minutes early to greet people
and to pass out the bulletins.
2. Count the congregation and put it on the slip which you
will find on the window sill.
3. Please go out to the Sunday School after the Sermon to
give them a five minute warning.
4. Bring up the elements after the peace, pass the plate and
wait for the doxology before bringing up the offering.
5. If there is food in the narthex, the kids will help
bring it up.
Readers
1. Please read your passage over before church.
2. Please check the book on the lectern before the service -
it should be open to the correct reading. Sometimes there is a
discrepancy between what I have on the sheet and the lectionary - go with what
is provided in that case.
3. If I have scheduled you for the second reading and
the prayers/psalm (which I try to avoid) stay at the lectern to introduce the
psalm.
Prayers of the People and Psalm:
1. I will try to remember to give you the hand-held
microphone, if I don’t please seek it out .
2. Please announce and lead the Psalm.
3. For the Prayers there will be sometimes a form assigned
(check the bulletin) and a “cheat sheet” tacked to the bulletin board. Please
use that form with the additions. Please offer prayers for the people on the
green bulletin insert and also invite members of the congregation to offer
their own prayers, thanksgivings and intercessions. Any questions,
ask Nancy.
4. If it is a special service with a litany, there are no
“green sheet” additions.
5. Todd volunteered a while ago to work with those who
lead the prayers, if you haven’t done so, please try to meet with him soon.
Chalice Bearers
1. Please make your way to the altar during the doxology. The
goal is to have you in place before the beginning of the Eucharistic prayer.
You should stand at either side in order to create a semi-circle around the
altar.
2. After each person takes the cup, please wipe and turn it.
Vestry Members
1. You are scheduled to do the announcements.
2. Please thank the youth who served at the altar, and any
other special people for that Sunday.
3.
Invite visitors to introduce themselves or meet us at coffee
hour.
4.
Invite people to make announcements and please make sure that
they have a microphone – either the hand held or one of the two clergy ones.
Many thanks to all of you for your ministry,
Leslie
